Brakes

The braking system in your vehicle is extremely important, it along with your tyres slows and stops your vehicle and the proper maintenance and operation of this system is critical. The entire braking system is automatically inspected and adjusted during any and all services carried out by the team at City Rubber. However, if you have any particular concerns due to unusual noises, vibrations or smells please do not hesitate to book the vehicle in and have them checked.

Suspension

Your vehicles suspension system is made up of many different individual components all working together to maximise your tyres contact with the road surface to allow for the highest level of grip, handling and comfort. Your suspension system consists of shock absorbers/struts, springs, ball joints, tie rod ends, rack ends and bushes. If one or more of these components are worn or faulty then your vehicles ability to stop or turn (especially in an emergency) is compromised. This can also lead to excessive wear on your tyres and other non-faulty suspension components due to the excess movement in the faulty ones.

The most common signs to indicate your suspension may need replacing are:

  • Knocks over bumps
  • Rolls and dips around corners
  • Tyres have unusual tread wear
  • Shocks/struts are leaking fluid

Transmission

Whether your vehicle has a manual or automatic transmission they both need to be serviced and maintained to ensure they operate correctly and to maximise their life.

The manual transmission is controlled by hydraulics, similar to your braking system. The fluid needs to be checked, maintained and even flushed as over time it becomes contaminated and this then causes excessive wear to the clutch master and slave cylinders. Sometimes the seals in the clutch master and slave cylinder fail and start to leak. These can be removed and overhauled and replaced if necessary. Also eventually the clutch will also start to “slip” and need to be replaced. All of this can be carried out by our trained staff.

The automatic transmission also needs to be checked, maintained and flushed as over time your automatic oil goes from a deep red (red wine colour) to a yellow, then brown and eventually black burnt colour. The old oil slowly causes damage to the transmission and as a result lowers its life expectancy. Over 90% of all automatic transmission failures are due to overheating and fluid contamination. By having the system regularly serviced/flushed it will help to maintain smooth safe driving while minimising the damage and therefore cost of replacing the entire transmission.
